Shame on me!
Today the kids and I ventured out to get their H1N1 vaccine boosters, always a stress inducing experience.... The clinic happened to be at a local community senior center. (Which will come into play later in the story). Kids got their boosters, and were none too happy with the experience :(, but they got suckers, so they were happy with those. Peanut was eating his, Beanie and Peachy were saving theirs until we got into the car. The clinic was on the 2nd floor, and we had ridden the elevator up, Peanut got to "push the buttons" and so I told Beanie that he could do the buttons on the way down. I promptly forgot, and on our way out, we hit the stairs. About 3/4 the way down, Beanie reminded me that he didn't get to push the buttons! So, being lazy, tired and pregnant, Peachy and I continued down the stairs and sent the boys back up to go down the elevator. Mind you, I could see and hear them all the way to the top and figured that they could safely make it to the elevator just around the corner. When they were almost to the top of the stairs, three concerned Senior Citizens told Peanut that "it was not safe to be on the stairs with a sucker in his mouth because he could fall and choke, and where is your Mother?" As I watched the scene unfold from the bottom of the stairs..... The gentleman proceeded to come down the stairs, and told me that I should really watch my kids, because they were upstairs by themselves.... The ladies headed to the elevator, and told that boys that they couldn't ride the elevator and to "just turn around and go back downstairs" This of course made my tender hearted Beanie start to cry as he dejectedly turned back towards the stairs :(. They came back down the stairs very upset and I told them (as the ladies were exiting the elevator) " I am your Mom and I said you could go down the elevator, so you can go ahead and go down the elevator!" The sweet Senior Citizen turned to me and said "shame on you for letting your children run rampant in a Senior center, they could have hurt someone...." Really? They weren't running, I could see them, I knew what they were doing, I gave them permission.... I turned to her and responded "shame on YOU for making my son cry, I told them they could go down the elevator, they weren't running , they were heading straight for the elevator and were not planning on 'playing' around, just getting in and coming down to meet me!" To which she replied "Kid's aren't allowed on the elevator, it is for the senior citizens" Me: "Really? I wasn't aware of that, I didn't see any signage posted when we went UP on the elevator" Her: " I will make sure that there is one put up". Me: "Good, next time we come we will be sure to pay attention to the 'no children sign' and I will act accordingly" Her: "You are a terrible mother and you should be ashamed of yourself". At that point, I proceeded to walk back up the stairs with the kids, let Beanie push the buttons, and we rode the elevator back down together (Which I SHOULD have done to begin with). As we were heading towards the exit, there she was pointing for all of her friend to see... "And THERE she IS" and again with a finger shake "Shame on you!" Here is where I lost it... She had a big cupcake that she was eating and I asked her "Is all of that refined sugar you are eating good for you diabetes?" Pause, nothing..... me: "It is really NONE of my business what you are eating is it? Just like it is none of your business how I choose to raise my children! Have a nice day!" As we were going out, poor Peanut was so concerned that we had broken the rules and was worried that she was going to call the police on us, and Beanie was still sad... It was very upsetting for them! Don't mess with a hormonal pregnant woman!

oh my gosh! That is the funniest thing I have read in a long time! Oh to have been a fly on the wall of the senior citizen center! Awesome!
Tee heehee! Thank you for the laugh. You are an awesome hormonal pregnant mom!
I love you! You are AWESOME! And you are an awesome Mom! ;)
Good for you for standing your ground! I'm not as quick and witty...I would have come up with all your "comebacks" about 10 minutes later, once in the car! Yay for you!
