It's just a finger....

Who knew just one little finger could be SO gosh darn important?   A couple of weeks ago, Ry was playing flag football (Church ball) and decided to capture the flag on the very last play of the game.  Of course he was going to do it, that is just his competitive nature!  But, instead of grabbing the flag, his finger got caught in the flag and his flexor tendon was snapped!  At first, he thought that he had just dislocated his finger, but it soon became evident that it was much more, he could not bend his finger.  Off to the instacare he went, but it was closing time and the wait was over an hour long.  He returned the next day for an x-ray and diagnosis of "Jersey finger"  a common football/rugby injury.  We found an orthopedic surgeon who got to do THIS to Ryan's finger:

The top picture is where the Surgeon drilled through the bone to anchor the suture (the bottom part of the first picture) which was threaded to the top of the finger.  The second picture shows the suture holding the flexor tendon at the top of the finger.
He got a cute *little* cast to wear for a couple of days:

No flexing, no extending, no grasping, no carrying babies, no changing diapers, no doing dishes, folding laundry, or bathing children for many weeks. I have lost my good little housewife! BUT, on the plus side?  He can still play the wii with the boys!
We are still trying to figure out who will take care of Fuzzy while I am at work.... I guess it is time to train Peanut to change diapers!

Wow! How crazy! Seth would love to have an actual reason to not do all those things (obviously without the pain or surgery). Hope it heals quickly.
Btw, I love that picture at the top! What a fun, cute picture!!
