Crayons

There they stand, all in a row, new and untouched.  The joy of opening a new box of crayons is hard to contain.   I *try* to hide them from my kids, to keep them for myself.  There is something about an unused crayon!  I want to keep them nice and neat, untouched.  I take them out of the box and arrange them in rainbow color order, grouping the colors together, then replace them in the box so I can color with them, all by myself, when the kids are asleep and no one is around.  I set the aside and wait for the perfect time to use "my" pretty new crayons...
But, all too soon, they are discovered by chubby little hands to produce priceless art.  Scribbles and circles, lines and faces, precious pieces of my children's creativity.  Now, they are no longer new and unblemished, but loved and used.
Resigned to living in the crayon graveyard, without a box, or an order, mingling with colored pencils and glue, they fall to the bottom of the pile, hoping to be enjoyed once again.
Poor, sad, broken crayons.  I still love you!

That's too funny! You just have to have a better hiding spot--mine are with MY markers too :)

I threw all our markers away. They're too much trouble in little hands!
But I love crayons too, and have lots of new ones I"m hiding for a time when I get to play with them.
My four year old found about sixteen boxes of new crayons I'd bought for school supplies at 19 cents each, and peeled each box open, destroying each one. So they all had to go into another bigger box, a crayon graveyard. I like how you described that.
I feel the same way! I love your crayon pictures.
