Architecture and Agriculture

Decorating a gingerbread house is our newest family tradition!  We did our first one last year, and decided that it would be fun to do it again this year, and from now on.

I wonder if there was more eating than decorating?

Peachy had fun helping this year.

Finished project!

Picking out the Christmas tree.

What good helpers!

One day long ago, I imagined that some day I would have a Christmas tree that was "beautiful" ie matching ornaments, a certain color, docorations that fit a theme....  but as the years have passed, I have decided that our Christmas tree is the best ever!  Our tree is decorated with a variety of ornaments, all with meaning, and all with a story!  When I was a little girl, my mom decided that it would be a fun tradition to get a new ornament each year.  The earliest that I can find in my collection is from 1982.  We have tradition Christmas ornaments, Angels and Nativities, ornaments the we inherited from my Grandma and Grandpa, as well as Ry's Aunt C.  We have ornaments that come from nick names (Scooter and Moose), memories from places we have been..... the year we went to Japan and some from when we went to Disneyland.  MANY from my cow loving phase!  Significant happenings in our lives... babies 1st Christmas, the year I graduated from Nursing school.  And of course the precious hand made ornaments from my kids!  Each ornament tells a story and it is SO fun to remember each year as we decorate our tree!  As we were decorating this year, Beanie was concerned about his lack or ornaments, each one we would unwrap, he would ask "is that mine?"  "Where are mine?"  "Is that one for me?"  Since he is only 4, he only has that many ornaments!  It is a fun tradition that we will hopefully carry on for many years!  As the kids get older, we will have to get a bigger tree to accommodate everyones ornaments!!  It will be a sad day when the kids have grown and have taken all their ornaments with them.  Our tree will be so empty!
